How our Urban Arrow Grows With Our Family
We bought an Urban Arrow Family one year ago, just before our kiddo turned one. We all love to ride, and the bike has changed our lives. Daycare drop-off and pick-up no longer feel like a hassle or chore when we bike instead of drive, and we love weekend bike adventures, group rides, and spinning to the playground.
When our daughter was still a baby, we used a Maxi-Cosi Mico Luxe and the Maxi-Cosi adapter to transport her safely and securely. She often napped during bike rides and the car seat helped with my peace of mind for riding with a baby. We installed the Maxi-Cosi “rear facing” (with the baby facing toward the rider). Quick note on sun shades with the infant car seat – the Urban Arrow sun cover may not fit with the car seat, though you can lower the car seat by adjusting the adapter and it should work that way. We generally just used the sun canopy built into the car seat, and paired with a muslin swaddle blanket if more shade was needed.
Other car seats that work with the Urban Arrow:
For families with more than one child, generally the car seat and adapter will fit with an older child riding on the rear bench seat.
Once our child grew out of the car seat, around 20 months, we looked for other options before simply moving her to the bench. Some families do choose to go straight to the bench seat with young toddlers, but we wanted an intermediate option.
Ultimately, we chose the Babboe Toddler seat. While designed for Babboe brand cargo bikes, it works well in the Urban Arrow and provides stability and comfort for our toddler. The Babboe site indicates use is for toddlers 8-18 months, but we anticipate being able to use it for many more months, and have heard the same from other cargo bike families.
A note on installing the Babboe toddler seat in the Urban Arrow: You don’t need the included hardware. The Urban Arrow seat belt will help hold the Babboe seat in place. It takes a little muscle power to get the Urban Arrow waist buckle through the Babboe. Using dish soap may help! Once you get it through the first time, you’ll be set.
So far, our daughter has been very happy facing out on the bike, and the Babboe has been a good transition from the car seat to the bench. We look forward to continuing to grow with the Urban Arrow.
